Domitilla Mattei and Fanny Andrey won the last round of NCST 09-10 in Crans-Montana!
In spite of the storm 11 girls took part in the last qualifying round of the NIKITA CHICKITA SWISS TOUR. The event took place in the snowpark of Crans-Montana (VS) on Saturday March 6th.
Because of the bad weather the event took place only on one line: a kicker of 5-6 m followed by a series of boxes and rails (rainbow, c-box, down-flat box, flat-box, flat-down box and wave box). The girls had an hour and a half of jam session to decide between one or the other.
The Italian snowboarder Domitilla Mattei stood out with runs composed of beautiful a back 360° on the kicker to take first. Super technical and stylish on the jib was Laura Berry from England, who ranked second. Local Léa Klaue, joined them on the podium in third.
The skier Fanny Andrey from Bulle made the most beautiful runs either on the kicker or on the jib to take first place, followed closely by Nicole Berra and Axelle Marchon.
These six girls are the last qualifiers for the big final of the NIKITA CHICKITA SWISS TOUR 09-10 which will be held in Thyon (VS) on March 20th.

Our girl on the ground, Pia Kaipainen, Nikita’s European Marketing Manager, was there to give us the inside story.
Friday 5th March 2010
Friday morning 7.30AM, the car windows had a thick layer of ice from snappy night temperatures of -30 degrees. We dressed up like Michelin men with 3 underlayers and down jackets and headed to meet with Noppa - Kläppen's park manager. We went through the competitor list and logistics of the next day's contest. After wrapping up the meeting we went to the park to meet with the local shred ladies Matilda Pilfalk, Tove Holmgren & co.
The girls were pushing themselves and super motivated to do their best on Saturday. It says something about the level of the riding when the ladies were insisting to use the black line in the park instead of the red line that we were first thinking of using! 12 o'clock sharp all Swedes head for lunch and so did we. It was great to chat with the girls and get to know them a bit better. The Nikita spirit was obvious; the girls totally supported each other and pushed one another to go bigger. That kinda friendship is so nice to witness. The rest of the day was spent hanging out together with girls, doing some riding and checking the girls' riding in the park. The day ended with a tasty dinner at Tranan restaurant with some girls competing the next day. After the dinner some of the crew stayed in the club and had some soda's :-) Overall a fantastic day!
Saturday 6th March 2010
Saturday morning didn't differ much from Friday's freezing temperatures but that didn't slow us down – 8.00AM we were loading the car with banners, goodie bags, beachflags and tents for Nikita Chickita. Noppa picked us up from the parking lot with a snowmobile and then it was time to set the gear up in the park. At 10.00AM we had a riders meeting and went through the schedule for the day. Then the girls went off to warm up and finalize what tricks they were gonna pull off at the contest. The event kicked off at 11.00AM with each girl having 4 individual runs on the black kicker line followed by 3 runs in the rail line. The judges, last year's Nikita Chickita Norway & Europe winner Cecilia Larsen and former Olympic snowboarder Anna Hellman were facing some tough decisions as all the girls in the contest were really talented.
After rewinding everyone's runs and discussing each girl’s strengths the judges gave out the results for the day. Everyone gathered at the tent in the park and you could feel the excitement in the air... The girl who picked up the jackpot of the day, i.e. a ticket to Nikita Chickita Scandinavia in Geilo, Norway, was Malin Johansson. She did a super smooth backside 360 with tailgrab into a frontside 360 in the last kicker. The second place went to Tove Holmgren who did a stylish frontside 540 mutegrab and backside air which also gave her a prize for the best trick of the day. Third place went to Jessica Fromm Comte. She did backside 360 indiegrab and frontside 540. The highest trick prize went to Atti Holst for spinning a huge backside 360 indiegrab in the first kicker.
Malin Johansson was stomping almost every trick and put down a really nice run on the rails. She was a deserving winner! After prize-giving ceremonies and photos everyone just chilled out in the beautiful afternoon sunshine with some juice and candy found from the goodie bags. There was not one girl leaving the park without a smile on their face so good times were had by everyone in Kläppen! That evening we had a super nice meal with the whole Nikita crew and most of the girls from the contest. The table was full of happy but tired competitors and lots of laughs were shared. BIG THANKS goes to the Skateout crew, Kattis and Karla, who did an amazing job organizing the contest and supporting the girls' snowboard scene in Sweden!! Both Kattis and Karla are such a joy to be around and everything was precisely organized, look out for the contest again next year! A big shout out to the Kläppen ski resort (Noppa, Marie, the Kläppen snowpark crew - and everyone else we had the pleasure to work with). And last but not least our judges Cecilia and Anna and all the girls in the contest who truly made the event!
Ett stort TACK til ertl alla!

With just over a month to go, we’re already looking forward to Nikita Chickita Europe 2010. The date was set a while back now and lest you forget, make sure the 10th April 2010 is fully penned in your diaries! Last year’s event was rocking thanks to an assortment of characters and nationalities who made the trip to compete, judge, ride and made it what it was.
Nikita Chickita is a chilled out and friendly all-girls slopestyle snowboard contest. An open invitation allowing both unknown and established riders of all ages to bust out their moves on the mountain during the day and party like there’s no tomorrow at night!
The contest is split into womens and juniors who compete in qualifying rounds before the best are chosen to battle it out in the finals. Juniors placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be awarded with a full to the brim goodie bag, whilst in the womens contest, the winner rides away with a one-year Nikita sponsorship. Stuffed goodie bags along with €1000 for 1st, €500 for 2nd and €250 for 3rd also await the top three women. Last year Sweden’s Cecilia Larsen had a triumphant win at the first Nikita Chickita Norway event, which meant as part of her prize she got to compete at Nikita Chickita Europe – she succeeded there too and victory was hers along with a one-year sponsorship with Nikita.
Pre-registration for Nikita Chickita Europe 2010 can be made by e-mailing michelle@nikitaclothing.com – please supply your full name, age and date of birth, contact telephone number, address and e-mail. Any riders with sponsors please state who they are. Nikita Chickita USA 2010 went down on Saturday February 20th at Brighton, Utah. What lay ahead was a super fun day and everyone who made it had a great time. A total of 46 girls showed up to be part of this year’s event and some amazing riding led to the following shredsters making the finals:
Top ten AMs:
Jessica Jensen
Midori Oatari
Anouck Gran
Lauren Weibert
Ariel Freidman
Renae Palma
Halo Wilson
Jessi Higgi
Kirra Kotsenburg
Oliyvia Weston
Top ten PROs:
Lynn Niell
Colleen Quigley (Nikita)
Steph Luxton
Lajawn Allen
Ashley Thornton (Nikita)
Kaitlyn Farrington (Nikita)
Gabby Maiden (Nikita)
Kara Rennie (Nikita)
Paige Rainear
Sandra Hillen
The surprise of the day was seeing winner of the AM division, 17 year old Jessica Jensen go on to win the PRO category as well!! This has never happened before and Jessica is definitely going to be a name to watch. She was hucking some super clean back 5’s which earned her the win and becomes a proud member of the Nikita Team with a one-year sponsorship deal. She totally rocked it! The Brighton staff did justice providing a great course. It had a variety of five different rails and boxes at the start leading to two 20 foot kickers in a row on to a wall ride finish. Long and challenging, but super fun!
Nikita Team rider and NC USA regular Colleen Quigley took 3rd again in the PROs category, consistently throwing huge back flips throughout the day. Another highlight was Paige Rainear getting tech on the rails with front board back one’s and gnarly nollie back tails.
Thanks to the judges on the day, including Madison Blackley (Nikita Team rider), Ana Van Pelt (Niche Snowboards), Kory (Arkade Magazine) and Marty (Park Digger at Brighton). Each judged a particular category either looking at Style, Technicality, Amplitude or Landing. Madison “had a blast judging. It was very fun being on this side of the competition. I got to see really rad tricks that I normally don’t see being so focused on the competition.”
Well done to all competitors that took part in Nikita Chickita 2010. Here are the results:
Winner AMs:
1st Place - Jessica Jensen, Idaho
2nd Place - Midori Oatari, Japan
3rd Place - Ranae Palma, Massachusetts
Winner Pros:
1st Place - Jessica Jensen, Idaho
2nd Place - Lynn Neill, Utah
3rd Place – Colleen Quigley, Massachusetts
Following her win, this is what Jessica had to say; “It was my first all-girl event and I had so much fun! The jam format took all the stress away from the comp and that was great.”
Other riders included Alice Gong (Winner Nikita Chickita USA 2008), Gabby Maiden, Kaitlyn Farrington, Kara Rennie plus Ashley Thornton who commented that “All in all it was an amazing contest!” and Colleen Quigley, “You guys killed it, the event was awesome and super fun.” The youngest competitor on the day was Kirra Kostenburg, just 13 years of age and tearing the bag!!
Following on from the day’s contest, everyone got loose at the Canyon Inn. A whole bunch of dancing and drinking took place in true Nikita fashion. A bunch of prizes were given away in a dance-off which led to some pretty impressive moves on the floor!
Hope to see you all again next year!!
Thanks to Shredbetties, Nylon, K2, BC and Seychelles footwear and Pom Pom Wax for being involved and helping in making this year’s event happen. And thanks also to the guys and gals at Brighton! Cheers!

Now in its sixth year, Nikita Chickita USA is an all-girls snowboard contest open to amateur and pro riders alike of all ages and abilities. This year the slopestyle competition will be taking place at Brighton Resort and the expectations are yet again high after some amazing riding saw a nearly even split of pro and amateur riders competing last year. Over 70 girls showed up to compete for the chance of winning a one-year Nikita sponsorship (Ams) and $1000 prize (Pros). The big winner in 2009 was Marley Colt, a 17 year old from Eden, UT in the Ams category and Joanna Dzierzawski from South Lake Tahoe for the Pros.
Despite having a contest format, the whole Nikita Chickita vibe is about making sure everyone has a great time getting together and having fun riding. With no age groups everyone is equal and last year saw Nikita riders Magalie Dubois, Vera Janssen, Maribeth Swetkoff, Gabby Maiden, Femke Henriques, Colleen Quigley and Madison Blackley all taking part and supporting other competitors.
With a one-year Nikita sponsorship up for grabs again this year for the winner of the Am contest plus a ton of prizes from the likes of K2, Seychelles and BC, Pom Pom Wax and of course Nikita streetwear and outerwear, we expect to welcome a lot of girls making their way to be a part of the Nikita Chickita experience once again. Pro riders will be competing for cash prizes; 1st will receive $1000, second $700 while 3rd place will leave with a pocket purse of $300. Not only is the contest there to enjoy, but we’re looking forward to busting some moves on the dance floor in the evening when the party time kicks off!

Nikita celebrates its 10 YEAR anniversary this year. Co-founder and GM / Moral Support at Nikita Clothing, Runar Omarsson, takes some valuable time out after an energetic game of footy and a cold beer to think about what’s happened over the last decade as Nikita moves into it’s 10th year in 2010.
“I can‘t really believe its been 10 years since we started Nikita! It feels more like 5 years but when I look at the facts and figures, it still must be 10 years. We‘ve done 19 collections of clothing. That means going on 19 trips with our team to different places to shoot photos, including Morocco, Amsterdam, Miami, Hossegor, Barcelona, New Orleans, Sagres – and a few in Iceland as well. We‘ve had sales meetings in Whistler, Berlin, Chamonix, Barcelona, Iceland, the Swiss Alps, Sardinia and more interesting places. Nikita is now available in 30 countries. We are 37 who work here instead of 3. We‘ve worked with a bunch of fun loving, hard working people who we all get to share our ideas and energy with. It is quite an incredible feeling to tell the truth!
When we started importing snowboards to Iceland in 1991, there were around five snowboarders up here. When we sold our snowboard shop in 1999 to start Nikita, there were around 1500 snowboarders up here. In our store, you would get a free lesson with every snowboard we sold. Us and our team guys (some of them among the five guys mentioned before) would teach everyone to snowboard, but we did that also because so many parents were sceptical about this new thing and didn‘t really want their kid to be on their own in the mountains learning how to do something that the parents didn‘t have any idea about. They were also a bit sceptical about entering our store, because it was a dirty little hole with loud music and skateboarders – who as we all know are VERY dangerous people (laughs).
For almost 10 years we had the pleasure of promoting snowboarding, skating and surfing in Iceland; and make a living out of it. In 1995 Nikita founders Heida and myself plus two friends were the first four Icelanders to start surfing here. But then at one point in time we got this idea; Heida, being the most active snowboard / skateboard / surfer girl in Iceland, had been designing some of her own clothes and jewellery. She‘d also been working in a fashion store to save money for some artsy university in London but took her money and bought herself a share in this snow / skate / clothing store. We didn‘t have any girls streetwear in the store, just some t-shirts from Sessions, Burton, Zero skateboards, Toy Machine, Girl / Chocolate. So what is a girl clothing designer turned snowboarder / skateboarder / surfer to do when she can‘t find any cool streetwear despite being the distributor and retailer for all the best brands in the industry at the time? Launch our own line! After all, I believed that I had some marketing/sales talent, and our third guy Valdi some finance/logistic skills. A true love triangle with the three of us.
We started small, with mainly fleece and microfleece second layer pieces with street fashion style. Sold a bunch of them in our store. Heida’s designs actually helped the store grow A LOT! We believed this could apply to many other boardsport stores, because we suddenly had an all-new group of excited customers. And they didn‘t only want to feel warm on the mountain, but look cool! After selling Heida‘s clothes exclusively in our own store in Reykjavik for two years we were ready to stop importing goods to our tiny little island and go for slight expansion...
In the meantime, we had to find a name for the collection, build a ‘team’ (it used to matter a lot on this market what brands supported riders, especially if the riders were good), create our first catalogue, do an international price strategy, figure out international labelling, find some manufacturers to work with, and a few other things.
The name, NIKITA we thought sounded cool. Like a cool girls name, could be from wherever. And it was easy to remember, because it’s easy to spell, looks good in print and everybody can say it (including Japanese people). We liked the chick in La Femme Nikita who hung out with all these cool guys and she was still the coolest of them. We still love the name of our brand. Love it!
Now we offer two collections of Nikita street fashion per year, one collection of Nikita outerwear, a small and more dressy line called Nikita Selekzion which comes out twice a year; spring / summer and fall / winter like the streetwear and then when we need a break from Nikita we create a few guys styles under the name Atikin (the other side of Nikita) but we don‘t really promote it. It´s out pet and only available in a few cool stores.
Our motto from the beginning was always to do what we love to do and make a living out of it. Well, we‘ve been riding (in some incredible places) for the whole time since we started Nikita. We snowboard, skate and surf. Heida won the national moto-cross championships one year as well and we‘ve competed as a team in enduro racing. We work with a bunch of amazing people. We work with board sports activists and fashioners alike. We get to share our vision with people who add all kinds of influence and qualities to it. We are very grateful for being able to do this for a living. We‘re not rich in that sense, we drive simple old cars and work our ass off every day and worry about bills to pay like everyone. But we have a lot of fun doing excactly that! You are offered so many choices to screw up when you try to launch a brand selling your own designs around the world that its crazy. We‘ve managed to go this far without doing that and it feels good! It means that all the obstacles; finding good manufacturers (all our clothing is Nikita’s own cut / sew so it‘s harder!), good staff (each and every one was hired into a position that had not existed before that person started), dealing with financing a small but exploding international brand on a far away island in the middle of the ocean, setting up offices in different countries, working with distributors all over the world, its been so much work, we could never do it unless it was our true PASSION! And now we celebrate our 10 year anniversary at Nikita by opening up our own Nikita flagship store in Reykjavik, only a few steps away from were we started the brand. It feels great to be 10! Everyone knows how full of energy and excitement you are when you are 10! You better believe we do too!
Thanks to the whole boardsports industry for the super nice and warm welcome that we have gotten from all of you in the last years. Thanks to you media guys for spreading the word. Thanks to our team riders, thanks to our staff. Last but not least, THANKS to all the girls out there who have stood by us from the start, always eager to know when the new stuff is coming and finding out where to get it. We love you right back!”
