Nikita Chickita USA 2010 went down on Saturday February 20th at Brighton, Utah. A total of 46 girls showed up to be part of this year’s event and some amazing riding led to the following shredsters making the finals:
Top ten AMs:
Jessica Jensen
Midori Oatari
Anouck Gran
Lauren Weibert
Ariel Freidman
Renae Palma
Halo Wilson
Jessi Higgi
Kirra Kotsenburg
Oliyvia Weston
Top ten PROs:
Lynn Niell
Colleen Quigley (Nikita)
Steph Luxton
Lajawn Allen
Ashley Thornton (Nikita)
Kaitlyn Farrington (Nikita)
Gabby Maiden (Nikita)
Kara Rennie (Nikita)
Paige Rainear
Sandra Hillen
The surprise of the day was seeing winner of the AM division, 17 year old Jessica Jensen go on to win the PRO category as well!! This has never happened before and Jessica is definitely going to be a name to watch. She was hucking some super clean back 5’s which earned her the win and becomes a proud member of the Nikita Team with a one-year sponsorship deal. She totally rocked it!
Nikita Team rider and NC USA regular Colleen Quigley took 3rd again in the PROs category, consistently throwing huge back flips throughout the day. Another highlight was Paige Rainear getting tech on the rails with front board back one’s and gnarly nollie back tails.
Thanks to the judges on the day, including Madison Blackley (Nikita Team rider), Ana Van Pelt (Niche Snowboards), Kory (Arkade Magazine) and Marty (Park Digger at Brighton). Each judged a particular category either looking at Style, Technicality, Amplitude or Landing. Madison “had a blast judging. It was very fun being on this side of the competition. I got to see really rad tricks that I normally don’t see being so focused on the competition.”
Well done to all competitors that took part in Nikita Chickita 2010. Here are the results:
Winner AMs:
1st Place - Jessica Jensen, Idaho
2nd Place - Midori Oatari, Japan
3rd Place - Ranae Palma, Massachusetts
Winner Pros:
1st Place - Jessica Jensen, Idaho
2nd Place - Lynn Neill, Utah
3rd Place – Colleen Quigley, Massachusetts
Following her win, this is what Jessica had to say; “It was my first all-girl event and I had so much fun! The jam format took all the stress away from the comp and that was great.”
Other riders included Alice Gong (Winner Nikita Chickita USA 2008), Gabby Maiden, Kaitlyn Farrington, Kara Rennie plus Ashley Thornton who commented that “All in all it was an amazing contest!” and Colleen Quigley, “You guys killed it, the event was awesome and super fun.” The youngest competitor on the day was Kirra Kostenburg, just 13 years of age and tearing the bag!!
Following on from the day’s contest, everyone got loose at the Canyon Inn. A whole bunch of dancing and drinking took place in true Nikita fashion. A bunch of prizes were given away in a dance-off which led to some pretty impressive moves on the floor!
Hope to see you all again next year!!
Thanks to Shredbetties, Nylon, K2, BC and Seychelles footwear and Pom Pom for being involved and helping in making this year’s event happen. And of course to all the guys and gals at Brighton! Cheers!

Lisa Filzmoser's 'One week in Italy with True Color Films'
"Alvaro Vogel, Rene Schnöller and me started our trip in Innsbruck. We packed my Golf with all our gear and headed to La Thuile, Italy. There we met up with filmer Arturo Bernardi, Filippo Kratter, and photographer Matt Georges, Bolognaise lover. La Thuile's French-sounding name underlines the fact that it is located right on the French border and situated in the beautiful Aosta Valley and the impressive mountains of Mont Blanc. The first two days we were pretty unlucky, the snow was hard packed and we found just in a little part of the forest something to do. But then after the second day during the night it snowed a lot and we had a great third day. We already planned to go to Bardonecchia, and from what we heard it snowed there too. But the next day we saw it hadn't snowed much there. A little bummed we decided to go to a different resort the next day and it was worth it.
Just an hour away it was much better and we had two OK last days. I have to say one week is really short for a trip, where you have to make a story out of it, also when the conditions are not great. But at least we had some great Italian food and a lot of fun! Ciao, I go back to Italia!"
Love, Lisa

"It has been a busy February in Whistler and the Olympics are truly underway, resulting in a very quiet mountain and a very busy town, the atmosphere is amazing. There are lots of free gigs going on, Swollen Members played the other night with skiers and snowboarders jumping through rings of fire behind them and a huge snowball fight in the crowd, pretty awesome.
The mountain itself has been so quiet all month and with amazing snow conditions and blue skies I have managed to get out touring and hiking a fair amount. I have been eyeing up Fissile all winter and set out for a mission with a couple of mates. It was very cloudy but we hoped the light would break through, it didn't. I managed to get a bluebird day out to Decker Mountain with friend Martha Burley who was over from Fernie, introducing me to two local photographers, Amy McDermid and Delaney Zayac, a perfect tour with fresh tracks and sweet terrain.
Few other odds and ends going on, myself and flatmate Claire Hughes have been going to Trampolining at Whistler Gymnastics. Hoping to improve our park riding, we are shown up every week by the group of fourteen year old boys we go with, but got the front flips dialed now - yet to try them off a cliff."
